Vote for LW Special Rec. Coach in National Contest

LWSRA adaptive sports coach and program coordinator, Peter Mangelsdorf has been announced as one of the semi-finalists for the Hartford "Achieve Without Limits Contest."

Lincolnway Special Recreation Association’s adaptive sports coach and program coordinator, Peter Mangelsdorf has been announced as one of the semi-finalists for the Hartford “Achieve Without Limits Contest."

The Hartford Insurance company, who is a founding partner of the U.S. Paralympics, asked people to send in a short video explaining how they could use $10,000 in three specific categories including Health & Fitness, Small Business Growth, and Community Service. Mr. Mangelsdorf submitted his adaptive sports program which features Wheelchair Basketball, Softball, Power Soccer, and an Ultimate Adventure Camp inside the Community Service branch of the contest.

The Hartford contest asks people to watch and vote for their favorite video via Facebook here. Votes can be submitted once every 24 hours. Contestants who receive the most votes will be awarded the prize money and be given a mentorship with a US Paralympic athlete to help see their goals come into fruition.

Mr. Mangelsdorf wants to use the contest to expand LWSRA’s adaptive sports programming to include more tournaments, field trips, and participants in the area’s of Mokena, Frankfort, New Lenox, Peotone, and Manhattan. Mr. Mangelsdorf says the mentorship by a U.S. Paralympic athlete would be instrumental in helping inspire his close to 50 adaptive sports participants to achieve without limits.

Voting for the contest videos ends on December 30th, and moves into the final phase. The video’s with the most votes will become three finalists from each category and will begin working towards implementing their action goals in order to win the grand prize; a trip to the London Paralympic Games 2012 to cheer on Team USA.

Please support our coach Pete in this effort and help children with special needs receive the funding and mentorship necessary to make our adaptive program an outstanding success.
