Residents Support LWSRA Park Party

Residents came out in full force on the evening of May 21st to enjoy the Park Party at Heritage Knolls Park in Frankfort.

Frankfort, IL: Residents came out in full force on the evening of May 21st to enjoy the Park Party at Heritage Knolls Park in Frankfort. The free family centered event was between 6pm - 8pm and was presented by the Lincolnway Special Recreation Association in conjunction with the Frankfort Park District.  

“It was great to see so many families enjoying themselves and learning about the programs, events and services the Frankfort Park District and LWSRA provide,” stated Cali DeBella, Special Events Coordinator at Frankfort Park District, “The Frankfort Park District was excited to be involved in the LWSRA’s Park Party. We cannot wait to do it next year!”

Over a hundred residents came out to enjoy the free family activities which included a DJ dance party courtesy of Wallace Entertainment, a jumpy castle delivered by Party Hoppers.net and mascots including the Chick-Fil-A Cow and other special guests.Pictures from the event can be found on Lincolnway Special Recreation Association and Frankfort Park District’s facebook pages.   

“The LWSRA Party in the Park at Heritage Knolls Park was an excellent way to showcase the cooperation between the Frankfort Park District and the Lincoln Way Special Recreation Association,” stated Tom Carstens, Executive Director of Frankfort Park District. “Offering this free family event was a great way to give back to the community.”  

Families were also given the opportunity to learn about local businesses and services in their area. Vendors at the Park Party included Covered in Chocolate, Pampered Chef, Chiro-One, Olivieri Brothers Architects, Oberweis Dairy, Southwest Airlines and Brannigan Chiropractic. Chick-Fil-A brought out their “Wheel-of-Win” which gave participants the chance to win great edible treats at their restaurants. Also at the party was Lil Miracles Sign Language Academy which offers sign language instruction for people of all ages.

”We are glad to see people come out and support their local park”, stated Keith Wallace, Superintendent of Recreation at LWSRA, “We want people to learn about the LWSRA and the programs we have to offer.”

LWSRA is inviting everyone to another free Park Party event in conjunction with New Lenox Community Park District on May 29st at Firefighters Park (1 Manor Drive) behind the main library near the village hall in New Lenox.

Lincolnway Special Recreation Association is an extension of the New Lenox, Mokena, Frankfort, Manhattan, and Peotone Park Districts. LWSRA has provided programming for individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities in the community for over 36 years and are building their own recreation center at Heather Glen Park in New Lenox.

LWSRA is hosting a Motorcycle Run June 24th at C D & Me in Frankfort. Lincolnway Specail Recreation Foundation’s Golf Outing is slated for August 10th at Sanctuary Golf Course. More information about all these events can be found by calling (815) 464 - 2811 or visiting www.LWSRA.org.
