LWSRA Candlelight Bowl a Success

Lincolnway Special Recreation held its annual Candlelight Bowl in support of people with special needs on March 11th.

The Lincolnway Special Recreation held its annual Candlelight Bowl in support of people with special needs on March 11. Teams of 6 came out to play in doubles bowling at s in New Lenox at 1009 West Laraway Lane Road.

LWSRA provides for individuals with special needs in New Lenox, Mokena, Frankfort, Manhattan, Peotone and beyond social and recreational opportunities. The March 11th fundraiser brought in over 67 bowlers and included cosmic and crazy variations of bowling. Bowlers started bowling after a catered dinner provided by Papa Joe’s in New Lenox that included chicken, mostaccioli, Italian beef sandwiches and salad. All left overs were donated to Morning Star Mission in Joliet.

The 2012 LWSRA Candlelight Bowl was sponsored by Walt’s Foodcenters, Lulich and Goff Attorney’s at Law, Humana Insurance agent Ciriaco Uriostegui, and Scentsy Candle’s agent Kelly Van Kampen. Raffle prizes were provided by local area businesses such as Arlington Park, Haunted Trails, Odyssey Country Club, Walt's Food Centers, Zanies Comedy Club, Laraway Lanes Bowling Center, Fleckenstein's Bakery, Beggar's Pizza, Costco, School of Rock Mokena,
Fred Astaire Dance Studio, Tire Tracks, Wallace Entertainment, and Wines for Humanity.

The silent auction of the event saw many signed memorabilia item’s auctioned off featuring stars and sports figures Katy Perry, Johnny Depp, Stan Mikita, Jonathan Toews, A.J. Pierzynski, Matt Forte, Devin Hester, Patrick Kane, Aaron Rodgers, Al Pacino, Pierce Brosnan, and Dale Earnhardt Sr. All items were provided by J.V.D. Sports and The Autograph Store Charity Fundraising.

A total of $1,256 was raised for special needs recreational programming. The foundation of the LWSRA is currently planning a Bunny Breakfast for April 7th in order to help raise funds for a recreational facility for the LWSRA’s over 200 programs a year.
