LWSRA Announces Motorcycle Run Benefit for Veterans

Lincolnway Special Recreation Association (LWSRA) is hosting a benefit, "Ride for the Rec" motorcycle run for Sunday, June 24th.

New Lenox, IL: Lincolnway Special Recreation Association (LWSRA) is hosting a benefit, “Ride for the Rec” motorcycle run for Sunday, June 24th. Registration begins at 10:00 am at Tom E. Hartung American Legion, 14414 Ford Drive in New Lenox, just off of Cedar Road. Proceeds from the benefit will go towards reducing registration fees for LWSRA programs. This event will also support LWSRA’s Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies, a fitness program provided in cooperation with Mokena Community Park District for veterans with physical disabilities.

Riders will be sent on an open country tour through Elwood, Wilmington, Manhattan and Frankfort. All riders will be given a clear map and will be challenged to make all the stops to gather points. The points will be tallied at the end for a chance to win a special prize that will be awarded at the After the Ride party at C D & ME in Frankfort.

Entrance into the benefit ride is $15 per rider and $5 per passenger with every fourth rider being free for those who sign up in groups. The ride will start with a patriotic taps and flag raising ceremony by retired members of our armed forces at 11am, with bikes going out at 11:30am. This event is sponsored by Silverback Motorcycles in Mokena, Law Tigers, and Motorcycle Rider Magazine. Food will be catered by Aurelio’s in Frankfort and live music will be provided by The Cruisers. The After the Ride party is open to the public for a $10 entrance fee and begins at 2pm at C D & Me. It will include a silent auction, raffle prizes, 50/50 raffles, motorcycle prizes, music and cash bar.

LWSRA is committed to serving individuals with learning disabilities, physical impairments, mental retardation (EMH and TMH), behavioral problems, visual impairments, autism, multiple disabilities, or other special needs. LWSRA engages individuals with disabilities and maximizes their potential overall health and socialization in the interest of promoting independence. LWSRA helps participants broaden their social skills, helps them to become more self-sufficient, and teaches them about self-advocacy in their community.

LWSRA was created in 1976 in order to provide social and recreational opportunities for individuals with any disability. LWSRA serves people with special needs through a cooperative agreement with the park districts of Mokena, Frankfort, New Lenox, Peotone and Manhattan, as well as surrounding communities. LWSRA has grown yearly and is currently attempting to raise funds for over 200 programs, athletic activities, social experiences, after school functions, and a program for veterans with disabilities.
