Firefighters for Special Recreation

Firefighters from the areas of Mokena and New Lenox took part in two wheelchair basketball fundraisers in order to raise money for the Lincolnway Special Recreation Association.

Mokena, New Lenox: Firefighters from the areas of Mokena and New Lenox took part in two wheelchair basketball fundraisers in order to raise money for the Lincolnway Special Recreation Association’s adaptive sports program. The LWSRA Rolling Falcons played against the Mokena Fire Protection District April 17th at Lincoln-Way East and the New Lenox Fire Protection District on April 29th at Lincoln-Way Central.

The Mokena Fire Department were represented by Scott Bukowski, Jim Cresto, Kevin Lenz, Todd Conwell, Bob McNellis, Tom Hug, Pete Cantore, Tim Boomsma, and Mike Laney. Playing for the New Lenox Fire Department were Dennis Randolph, Tony Palkovitz, Brian Applegate, David Young, Randall Wright, Tom Van Tilburg, Lance Foster, Bryan Chap, Frank Hasik, and John Harkenrider.

“We really want to thank all the firefighters for participating,” said Keith Wallace, assistant coach of the Rolling Falcons and Superintendent of LWSRA. “We look forward to make these bigger and better next year.”

This is the third year the Rolling Falcons have played the Mokena Firefighters and the first year for the New Lenox Fire Protection District. All proceeds will go towards the purchase of sports chairs for the LWSRA’s adaptive sports program that gives individuals with physical disabilities the chance to play basketball, softball, and many other great activities.  

LWSRA provides social and recreational opportunities for individuals with special needs through the park districts of Mokena, Frankfort, New Lenox, Peotone, and Manhattan.
