Bike the Trail set to ride August, 11th

Bike the Trail! This family bike ride will be held on Saturday, August 11th at Breidert Green where registration begins at 10am.

Frankfort, IL: Lincolnway Special Recreation Association (LWSRA) has teamed up with the Village of Frankfort and Frankfort Park District to bring residents the first annual Bike the Trail Event. This family bike ride will be held on Saturday, August 11th at Breidert Green where registration begins at 10am at the parkway adjoining Old Plank Community Trail. All proceeds will benefit LWSRA’s Special Olympics programming that runs year round and features track and field, bowling, basketball, softball, tennis, volleyball, downhill snow skiing, golf, bocce and swimming for individuals with developmental disabilities in the areas of Frankfort, Mokena, New Lenox, Manhattan, Peotone and surrounding areas.

The ride will feature three routes all beginning and ending at Breidert Green with differing lengths for all different skilled bike riders. Bike the Trail is $10 for adults and $5 for all children 13 and under. All participants will receive a Bike the Trail t-shirt provided by event sponsors Adam’s Bike Shop and First United Bank. First United Bank will also provide trail mix for all participants pre-ride. Adam’s Bike Shop will also help out with any bicycle maintenance that might be needed before the ride begins after the 10am registration. Volunteers and clear signage will be provided along the ride with the longest route featuring a water station sponsored by Feil Water Treatment in New Lenox.

After participants go out on the routes and come back a post ride party will be held on Breidert Green featuring a DJ Dance party by Wallace Entertainment, Pizza by Durbin’s in Frankfort, and a Jumpy Castle by MR Moonwalks and sponsored by Spinclub of Mokena. Participants will also get great opportunities to learn about upcoming programs and events from the Frankfort Park District, Village of Frankfort, LWSRA and more.

Lincolnway Special Recreation Association has provided individuals with developmental and physical disabilities programs and services for over 36 years. LWSRA offers programs for individuals with disabilities through a special cooperative agreement that includes Frankfort, Manhattan, Mokena, New Lenox, and Peotone Park Districts. They are currently attempting to raise funds for over 200 programs a year including Special Olympics, adapted sports, sheltered workshops, special education classes, social events, dances, trips, a year round adult day program, and a fitness program for veterans with disabilities.
