An Intro to Healthy Eating and Living

Yoga and Food! Who could ask for more?

First of all, let me introduce myself.  I am Taylor Boyle, a wife and mother of three and a six year resident of New Lenox. For the past six years my husband, Mike, and I have dedicated ourselves to living healthy lives.

What does this really mean?  When I first made the choice to lose the baby weight from my first daughter who is now 8, this meant changing some serious bad food habits.  I was no longer 18 and able to scarf a Spicy Chicken Sandwich and fries from Wendy's and not have it flow directly to my thighs.

I joined Weight Watchers three months before our wedding and by the time our big day arrived I had lost 25 pounds!  I then lost about 10 more and then became pregnant with our son!  With him I gained about 55 pounds but soon after his birth I jumped right back into Weight Watchers and worked really hard to lose all the baby weight and then some.

I helped Mike to lose 35 pounds as well!!  All by changing the way we ate.  We portion controlled, got rid of nasty fats and sugars all the time and added more veggies, fruits and whole grains.

We have heard this all before but I am here to tell you it is not a myth!!  What I have struggled with since the birth of our daughter (baby #3) is the combination of getting older and watching what I eat but also finding time to exercise.  This is so important, not only for our bodies but our souls!  I have always had an interest in Yoga but decided this past February to start dedicating my free time to developing my practice.

My goal for this blog is to share with you healthy recipes that your family will love and to highlight local yoga classes that are sure to feed your soul!  Enjoy!!!

And for my first recipe:

Paleo Chili

1LB Ground Turkey

40 sliced olives

1 Jar Salsa

Chili powder and salt to taste

Brown the turkey in a skillet, drain.  Sprinkle with Chili Powder and add the salsa.  If you want a more soup like consistency, add some water!  Simmer and enjoy.  This is super quick and one of my family's faves.  This was passed on to us from some friends in Colorado who have also dedicated themselves to a healthy lifestyle! I have been dreaming about this all day with the impending fall weather.  I can't wait to throw this together on a busy night! Try it with a box mix of gluten free corn bread and you will not be disappointed.

Check back tomorrow night when I highlight a local yoga class!
