Administrators notified parents of the change during dropoff on Tuesday and also posted an announcement to the District 210 website

Currently, the westmost entrance to the school is blocked. Starting this Thursday, June 21, , forcing a detour of about 4 miles. That essentially leaves the middle entrance open, which could cause severe jams if an eastbound car tries turning left in the single lane.

District spokeswoman Stacy Holland said the state informed District 210 of this closure on Monday.

"The classes have not been interrupted, but if you have two out of our three entrances and exits closed, you can see the issue," Holland said.

The move is for summer school classes only. Extracurricular programs such as band and athletics will still be at Central, and the day care program will still operate there as well.

Village engineer Will Nash said that according to the Department of Transportation's contract, the Schoolhouse Road access may be closed for up to 30 days.

The first semester of summer school began June 13 and runs through June 29. The second semester runs from July 5 to July 23.

At the end of Tuesday's summer school classes, each student will be sent home with an individual letter telling them exactly which classroom they'll be in starting Wednesday at West. District and building administrators will also be at West early to help direct students, Holland said.

What to Do

  • Students riding buses to Central, will now ride bus to West, and be dropped off in back of the school, students enter through doors 43 & 44.
  • Parents driving their students, please drive to West, 21701 S. Gougar, New Lenox, drop off at the front entrance to the school by flagpole and enter door 1.
  • Students driving to Central, drive to West, park in east parking lot between school and stadium, enter door 21.
  • Students who walk to Central, a bus will be provided to transport to West from Central. After school a bus will be provided from West to Central so students may walk home. Holland said students typically arrive to school 15 to 20 minutes before classes begin, so as long as they're to Central by then they can catch the bus.
