UPDATE: And the Winner in Voting for Patch Athlete of the Week is ...

Stagg wrestling standout Kevin Moylan powered his way to a second-period pin at the Class 3A Lyons Township wrestling regional. He won the 145-pound championship. And he outpolled six others in voting for Patch Athlete of the Week.

Stagg wrestling standout Kevin Moylan outpolled six others in voting for Patch Athlete of the Week, Jan. 29-Feb. 4. He is now eligible for February Patch Athlete of the Month recognition.

The candidates:

Diamond Beatty, junior, guard, girls basketball, Tinley Park. Beatty’s performance against Lemont was a real gem. She scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds in leading the Titans to a 59-46 victory.

Martin Einikis, junior, forward, boys basketball, Oak Lawn. Two games, 57 points. Einikis torched Eisenhower for 38 points in the Spartans’ 81-70 victory. Earlier in the week, he scored 19 points in Oak Lawn’s 44-41 victory over Evergreen Park.

Cassidy Glenn, senior, forward, girls basketball, Providence Catholic. Glenn scored 27 points in the Celtics’ 44-42 victory over Carmel. Then, she erupted for 14 of her 21 points in the first quarter of Providence’s 55-42 victory over Bishop McNamara.

Henry Hicks, senior, guard/forward, boys basketball, Bloom Township. Hicks—with 17 points—supplied an offensive spark in the Blazing Trojans’ 77-27 victory over Kankakee. He hit double figures again (11 points) in a 64-44 victory over Rich East.

Kevin Moylan, senior, wrestling, Stagg. Moylan scored a 3-minute 44-second fall over Jack Bates of Lyons Township to capture the 145-pound championship at the Class 3A Lyons Township Regional. The win pushed Moylan’s record to 38-0.

Stephen Zieler, senior, swimming, Sandburg. Zieler sped to victory in the 100-yard backstroke event in the Southwest Suburban Conference meet. He was clocked in 53.83 seconds. He also was a member of three winning relay teams and helped the Eagles capture the team title in a runaway at Lockport High School.

This is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. In my opinion the voting competition is rigged. It is mind bottling to me how Henery Hicks and Cassidy Glenn were running neck and neck for the whole competition and all of the sudden the last day for voting Kevin Moylan blows both of them out of the water. It is impossible for someone to get that many votes in one day. Within the time frame of 45 mintues he recieved 4000 votes. Clearly something is not right. i feel like if the game cant be played fairly then it should not be played at all.
JEAN BROWNING February 10, 2012 at 02:23 am
I have been monitoring this competition since it started. It if awful how the student who had about 2-4% of the votes on the last day and several hours before the voting is over get over 4000 thousand votes in a matter of minutes and I mean minutes, and then about another 2 minutes he gets 8609 votes and then no votes until about 5 hours later for a total of 8626 votes. This is crazy. Henry Hicks won. Cassidy Glenn was in second place. I WAS VOTING FOR THE WHOLE DAY AND SAY THAT EVEN THE PERCENTAGES WAS TAMPERED WITH AND UP TILL 9:00 PM. IT WAS STILL TAMPERED WITH.
Ron Kremer (Editor) February 10, 2012 at 03:40 am
All the voting is computerized. There is no tampering—unless you consider Chicago-style voting tampering, you know, early and often. All of the candidates are deserving of votes. All of the candidates, in effect, already are Athletes of the Week in their hometowns. This is a contest to determine a regional winner. But there is no tangible prize—only the intangible sense of comfort that comes from having friends backing you at the polls. Weekly winners are thrown in a pool and sound judgment is used to pick the Patch Athlete of the Month.

Ron you and Seawall need to stop the BS. Any voting on patch should be considered a joke, and it really should not be that hard to fix. I enjoy the thought of voting just to see who people like....but that is obviously not happening in any of these voting contests. I get that its just for fun, but why not fix the problem? Or instead of calling people winners of contests-just say these people cheated the best. Of course all the kids are deserving, but how can any contest be taken seriously on here, its a joke! Is there someone people who care can complain to? why would you not rather run a fair contest...I just don't get it.

Yeah Kremer, cause people have nothing better to do than come on here and lie. Ok, I believe Ms. Browning was monitoring and yes everything is computerized and someone tampered with something for all of those votes to count in that short amount of timespan.
But regardless, you are correct, every athlete is deserving of this title. How about REALLY making things fair though and Patch not letting users vote multiple times?

I have been SO ANGRY that I haven't been even wanting to comment for the sake of keeping my spirits up and knowing that HENRY HICKS WON THIS HANDS DOWN!!! PERIOD! We (my family and friends) worked tiredlessly all week voting for Henry Hicks and we monitored these results on a regularly basis. The competition was always between Cassidy and Henry with only a few votes to separate the two of them. On the last day of the voting process late afternoon, Kevin jumps from approx. 700 to over 4,000...then up to 8,000 in less than an hour???? Come on there isn't that much refreshing in the world or that many people voting in that amount of time. It toke all of us (my family and friends) to vote all week CONSTANTLY to get Henry up to those 4,000 votes and I'm sure Cassidy's family can vouch just the same, because they were on it just as we were. Then Kevin gets 4,000 votes in a matter of minutes. Its a shame that we have strayed away from being fair and having dignity. These are young people who are growing up and this is how we show them the world works? Wow...that's why we have to continue to fight 10x's as much as the next person but you can't take away from the fact that Henry Hicks won this competition... but in God's eye he is a winner ANYWAY.

Yes, Henry Hicks was ROBBED of his HONOR of ATHLETE of the Week. If all
was fair, where did all of the votes come from in two clicks? and it took over 4 days for Henry and Cassidy to get to where they got. One vote at a time. "WINNERS DON'T CHEAT AND CHEATERS DON'T WIN."
Susan February 14, 2012 at 04:45 pm
You cheated and you know it...Henry Hicks, Henry Hicks! He is the winner!
Stella Nyder February 14, 2012 at 07:56 pm
I don't normally follow the athlete of the week polls...
but I wanted to respond as there are hurt and angry feelings here... understandably so! Unfortunately, there is a way that someone can vote multiple times in one day.!!! I know because I had suspected as such from commenters a while back about Mrs Rains as District 161 new Superintendent polls. I wanted to prove a point so I decided to see if it was possible to vote more than once in the same day. In fact I was able to vote a number of times using neighboring patch websites..from my main computer and my laptop. I don't know if this happened here but it is possible for many people to vote more than once...from neighboring patch websites and other computers in their homes including logging in... Ron I know there was no tampering from your end but commenters who are competitive will find ways to "cheat' the system. I hope this is helpful to the Patch team because it does need to be addressed...

@ Stella we know that you can vote multiple times...that's what we were doing and Cassidy's family was doing it too...you are missing the point...we voted multiple times for hours and days. And I do mean HOURS and days constantly closing out, refreshing etc. The POINT here is THERE IS NO WAY TO get 8,000 VOTES IN SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME....even if you had a laptop going, desktop, whatever it isn't possible.

People coming from the east will now have to fight through school traffic at Rt. 30/Schoolhouse.Read More People from southwest New Lenox will have to either venture up Cedar, which is painfully slow... or take Spencer from Laraway, in which they will have to cross Rt. 30 to go straight. Won't be an easy picnic.
