Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade Inspires Local Kids at Basketball Camp

The Miami Heat Superstar Dwyane Wade came back to the Southland to teach kids basketball, sportsmanship and more.

Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat made a lot of kids happy Thursday in New Lenox. The star is in town for a two-day sports camp at Lincoln-Way Central High School, 1801 W. Lincoln Highway.

The shooting guard for the Miami Heat, which won its third NBA Championship, proved he didn't have to be in the limelight to be a superstar. Sitting in an office in the L-W Central Field house before meeting with a couple hundred kids, ages 8-18, he said this Elite camp is something he enjoys.

He said he considers the camp an opportunity to help kids. Last year Wade came to New Lenox together with Chicago Bears Devin Hester for a combination basketball and football camp. "I was glad to do it."

In his fifth year of offering basketball camps in New Lenox and for the Lincoln-Way communities, Wade said his personal friendship with Mayor Tim Baldermann makes the camp experience better.

Speaking of his three NBA championships, he said, "Sometimes you just float through life and this happens to you. I've been blessed. I'm just very humbled by it."

Baldermann said, "Dwayne's one of the most genuine people I've ever met. I watch the kids' faces. It's incredible."
