Sports Video Highlight Reel: New Lenox Rebels Baseball Stars Heat Up with Weather

A six-run sixth inning powered the New Lenox Rebels past the Tinley Park Bulldogs in a 13-14 year-old all-star tournament game in Tinley Park.

One of Yogi Berra’s many memorable lines is, "It ain't over ‘til it's over."

The boys on the New Lenox Rebels baseball team know that to be true.

The Rebels scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning to rally for a 9-7 victory over the Tinley Park Bulldogs in a 13-14-year-old matchup on July 20 at the Tinley Park all-star tournament.

The Rebels struggled to find an offensive groove early, as Bulldogs pitcher Malik Kurdi struck out five over the first two innings. After New Lenox scored on a wild pitch in the second, the Rebels' Tyler Erickson scored in the third off an error, and Jake McGrath scored on a wild pitch, giving New Lenox a 3-2 lead.

After Tinley Park responded with three runs in the third and two more in the fifth, the Rebels put their rally caps on.

Joe Ruppenthal hit a bases-clearing double off Tinley's Eric Arnold to bring the Rebels within one, and he soon scored to tie the score. John Skiniotes knocked in David Eggert for the go-ahead run.

Ruppenthal then came in to pitch the bottom of the inning and retired the Bulldogs in order to preserve the win.

At the plate, Ruppenthal (1-for-2, double, 3 RBIs, 1 run, 1 walk) and Skiniotes (1-for-2, 1 RBI, 1 run, 1 walk) led the Rebels. Arnold (1-for-1, 3 RBIs, 1 run, 2 walks) and Alex Bacevicius (1-for-1, 2 runs, 2 stolen bases, 2 walks) led the Bulldogs.

Skiniotes picked up the pitching win for New Lenox, while Arnold was charged with the loss.
