Softball: Providence Rallies Past Queen of Peace
Providence 5, Queen of Peace 3. Celtics score four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat Pride.
Touching All the Bases: Providence freshman Courtney Pych had sacrificed in her first two plate appearances Saturday, but with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, she hit a clutch two-run single to give the Celtics a 4-3 lead. Leadoff hitter Allie Strick followed with an RBI single for an insurance run. Celtics pitcher Amanda Wilson surrendered a double with two outs in the top of the seventh before ending the game on a popout, giving Providence a 5-3 victory over Queen of Peace.
Patch’s MVP: Providence's No. 8 hitter, Illana Primack, singled in her first two at-bats and then walked before Pych delivered her clutch hit in the sixth inning. Primack’s walk was the only one received by the Celtics all afternoon.
Queen of Peace Leaders: Kristi Gierman went 3-for-4 with two doubles, Steph Rich went 2-4 with a double, and Jessica Kelly, the losing pitcher, went 3-for-3 with a double.
