Softball Playoff Primer: Warriors Season Ends After 1-0 Loss in 8 Innings

The Sox and Cubs might not be worth the price of admission this season, but there's a lot of good ball being played in the south suburbs.

Regional schedule: All games, except the first, will be played at the Class 3A Joliet Catholic Regional, 1200 N. Larkin Ave. in Joliet.

Monday, May 23

• Game 1: 18. Rich South defeats 15. Morgan Park, 10-7

Tuesday, May 24

• Game 2: 2. Joliet Catholic defeats 18. Rich South, 11-0

Friday, May 27 (postponed from Wednesday)

• Game 3: 7. Lincoln-Way West defeats 9. Bremen, 10-0 (6 innings)

Saturday, May 28

• Game 4: 2. Joliet Catholic defeats 7. Lincoln-Way West, 1-0 (8 innings)

Analysis: A second-round win against Joliet Catholic isn't out of the question for the Warriors, who have shown some promise during the season. A game earlier this season showed they could hang with good teams when they got out to a 4-1 lead over Stagg before giving up eight unanswered runs.

Road to State: If the Warriors made it to the Oak Forest sectional, the home team would be the favorite. A sectional semis matchup against Evergreen Park would be first, though.

• Game 1: 13. Thornton Fractional South defeats 20. Thornton, 15-2

• Game 2: 11. Providence Catholic defeats 21. Thornridge, 21-0
  

Tuesday, May 24

• Game 3: 4. defeats 13. Thornton Fractional South, 10-0

Wednesday, May 25

• Game 4: 5. Lockport Township defeats 11. Providence Catholic, 2-1 (11 innings).

Saturday, May 28

• Game 5 at 11 am: 4. vs. 5. Lockport Township

Analysis: The Celtics got past Thornridge and hung tough with Lockport. The Porters are red hot lately, having won 10 of 11 games going into the win over Providence.

Road to State: The Celtics' season is over.

• Game 1 at 4:30 pm: 16. Crete-Monee defeats 18. Eisenhower, 12-1

Tuesday, May 24

• Game 3 at 4:30 pm: 7. defeats 10. Lincoln-Way Central, 7-4. H-F was led by the pitching of Sarah Burke with seven strikeouts and one earned run. Alex Bitto was 3-for-4 and Kaitlyn Shereyk and Melanie Hamilton were 2-for-3.

Wednesday, May 25

• Game 2 at 4:30 pm: 2. Stagg vs. 16. Crete-Monee

Saturday, May 28

• Game 4 at 11 am: Game 2 Winner vs. 7.

Analysis: H-F was in the "next best" category of our weekly power rankings, but the Knights hung tough.

Road to State: Lincoln-Way Central's season is over.
