Softball: Lincoln-Way Central Gets Weissenhofered

Lockport 5, Lincoln-Way Central 0. Lockport junior Taylor Weissenhofer throws a complete-game, one-hitter to stifle Knights' offense in their final home game.

Touching All the Bases: Before Lincoln-Way Central had even grabbed a piece of aluminum from the bat rack, it was trailing 2-0 due to some shaky defense in the first inning. Lockport scored on a ground out off the bat of Lia Romeo and a double from Ashley London and would never be threatened by the Knights in a 5-0 softball victory on Monday.

Patch’s MVP: Lockport's Taylor Weissenhofer (9-1) set down the first eight she faced, fanning five of them before No. 9 hitter Alyssa Farbak singled sharply to left field with two outs in the third inning. Weissenhofer allowed four base runners the rest of the game, three on walks and the other on an error.

Lockport Leaders: In addition to Weissenhofer's effort in the circle and London's RBI double, the Porters received solo home runs from Allison Foley and pinch-hitter Jessica Kubinski.

Lincoln-Way Central Leaders: Farbak had the lone hit for the Knights.

Quotable I: Lockport coach Marissa Chovanec on Weissenhofer's performance: "She did a good job of controlling the game by getting ahead of hitters and hitting her spots and a lot of that was hitting corners."

Quotable II: Lincoln-Way Central coach Stephen Paulsen on his team's offensive struggles: "We addressed this earlier about how we can't wait around for Kylie (Bennett) to always come through with the big hit and how we need to put better at-bats together with hitter's counts rather than pitcher's counts, which we had most of today."

Team Records: Lockport: 21-8-1 overall and 8-4 Southwest Suburban Blue; Lincoln-Way Central: 12-12 and 7-5 Southwest Suburban Blue.

What’s Next: Lockport hosts Joliet Central on Tuesday. Lincoln-Way Central travels to Lincoln-Way East on Tuesday.
