LW-East, Stagg Advance to Soccer Sectional Final

Lincoln-Way East beat Eisenhower 1-0 on a last-second goal while Stagg beat Lincoln-Way Central 2-0. The two winners will face off Saturday in the sectional championship.

Despite losing coach Brian Papa in the middle of the season, the boys soccer team has made it to the sectional championship.

The Griffins won on a William Will strike with only six seconds left, breaking a previously scoreless match against Eisenhower on Tuesday night.

Now they face in the sectional championship at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at in Tinley Park. The winner will play in the Class 3A supersectionals next week.

Stagg won 2-0 against . According to the Sun-Times, Stagg went up 2-0 with 9:45 left in the game when it was delayed because of lightning and eventually called off. Roberto Torres and Conrad Polinski scored Stagg's two goals, the Sun-Times wrote.

Stagg is 18-2-2, and Lincoln-Way East is 9-10-5. The Lincoln-Way Central Knights finish the season at 18-6-1.

Papa was fired after allegedly made a comment about an opposing player after a Sept. 27 loss against Central, according to a story in the Chicago Tribune. However, school officials said the decision to let go of Papa midseason had to do with the team and performance.
