Lincoln-Way Central Soccer Rates a 10

C.J. Zuraitis helps Knights boys soccer team earn its 10th victory.

The boys soccer team became the first area team to reach 10 wins this fall with a 4-2 victory against Bolingbrook on Saturday.

C.J. Zuraitis scored twice and added an assist in the Southwest Suburban crossover. The victory lifted the Knights to 10-2-1 on the season.

Football: Providence Singing the Chicago Catholic League Blues

The defense kept things close against St. Rita on Friday night, but the Celtics couldn’t get anything going on offense in a 19-0 loss to the Mustangs.

The Celtics managed just 89 rushing yards, while quarterback Jake Godfrey, playing in place of Chris Salazar (concussion), completed only six of 15 passes for 109 yards. Troy Sheppard had two interceptions for the Celtics.

Football: Rough Homecoming for Knights

Lockport put a damper on homecoming festivities at Lincoln-Way Central on Friday night, as the Porters rolled to a 37-10 victory in a Southwest Suburban Blue game in New Lenox. Brett Ditchman had the lone touchdown for the Knights on a 1-yard run.

The Knights dropped to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Volleyball: Warriors Fall Short Against Sandburg

The girls volleyball team has had a strong season so far, but it ran into a Sandburg team that just proved to be too much to handle. The Warriors dropped the Southwest Suburban crossover match, 25-21, 25-14.

Volleyball: Knights Fall to L-W East and St. Francis

The Lincoln-Way Central girls volleyball team had a couple of tough matches in last weekend’s Rich East Invitational. The Knights lost 25-10, 25-16 to Lincoln-Way East and 25-21, 25-12 to St. Francis in Division B play. Danielle Dowd was an all-tournament team selection.

Volleyball: Tougher Competition Tames Providence

Providence got one of its biggest tests of the season last Wednesday, and while the Celtics hung with Mother McAuley, they ended up falling in two games, 25-19, 25-20. Providence was back in action in Division A of the Rich East Invitational this past weekend. The Celtics took fourth place, after losing 25-21, 25-18 to Marist in the third-place match.

Krista Brakauskas had 85 assists on the weekend, while Nora Mitros added 38 kills and Alyssa Bodwell was named all-tournament for Providence.

Boys Golf: Celtics Win Will County Invitational

The Providence boys golf team won Friday’s Will County Invitational at Wedgewood with a 302. The Celtics finished nine strokes better than runner-up Lemont (311), while Lincoln-Way East was third (312) in the 17-team tournament. Medalist Ryan Utter led the Celtics with an even-par 72. Teammate Casey Labuda added a 73.
