Knights Leads Lincoln-Way West Boys Golf Squad

Will Knights helps Warriors edge L-Way East at Green Garden two days after finishing 2nd in the T.F. South Invitational.

With a last name that would be more fitting if he were playing for sister school Lincoln-Way Central, Lincoln-Way West’s Will Knights shot a 1-under-par 34 on Thursday to help the Warriors beat Lincoln-Way East 154-158 in a Southwest Suburban crossover at Green Garden Country Club’s Emerald Course in Frankfort.

Jerry Lombardo (38) and Sean Knights (39) also had strong rounds for the winners.

On Tuesday, Will Knights finished second in the 18-hole T.F. South Invitational, with a 78, to help the Warriors claim fourth place.

Bolden Moves on the Links for L-W Central

Lincoln-Way Central’s Bryant Bolden fired a 2-over-par 74 to lead the Knights to Wednesday’s 10-team Plainfield Central Invitational title in boys golf. Tom Achumen was right behind Bolden with a 75 for the Knights.

On Thursday, the Knights went head-to-head against Lockport in a Southwest Suburban crossover and edged the Porters 154-160. Bolden and Tony Kestel led the way with a pair of 1-over-par 37s at Big Run in Lockport.

Providence Grad Travis Chooses Hoosiers over Reds

Sam Travis, a 2011 Providence graduate who was named the received a strong offer from the Cincinnati Reds, who drafted him in the 40th round of this year’s amateur baseball draft.

But the desire to play at Indiana University remains very strong, so Travis kindly declined the Reds' offer, and he will take his big bat and steady glove to Indiana University.

The accolades have continued to roll in for Travis, as he was named first-team All-Midwest regional and third-team All-American by the National High School Baseball Coaches Association.

In related news for Big Ten and Providence Catholic followers is the latest regarding speedy outfielder Charlie Tilson. The 2011 New Trier graduate, who was coached by former Providence baseball coach Mike Napoleon, had committed to play at the University of Illinois, but he could not pass up the offer to play professionally for the St. Louis Cardinals' organization. Tilson was the 79th overall pick and received a substantial singing bonus of $1.275 million.
