Gimme 5: O’Leary Doesn’t Have a Cow with Heat

Lincoln-Way West senior Jake O'Leary has battled the heat as a catcher for the Warriors this summer baseball season and is now gearing up for a strong season at tight end on the gridiron.

Last spring, Jake O’Leary was one of three catchers named Jake on Lincoln-Way West’s baseball roster.

Jake Keefe has since graduated and moved on to Joliet Junior College, while O’Leary and Jake Benson are expected to bring the most experience to the position next spring as seniors.

On July 18, O’Leary helped the Warriors win their first tournament game in the IHSBCA 2011 Phil Lawler Summer Classic. He doubled home a pair of runs, sacrificed a runner to second base and was hit by a pitch to bring home what would prove to be the winning run in .

O’Leary and the Warriors dropped their next game, 4-1, to Sandburg, to eliminate the team from the tournament, but O’Leary still has some baseball left this summer as he plays for the New Lenox American Legion team.

There’s seemingly no rest for O’Leary, as football also is on his mind these days. O’Leary is expected to play a key role as a tight end for the Warriors this fall.
