Former Providence Wrestling Champ Bormet Heading Back to Michigan

Sean Bormet has accepted a job to return to Ann Arbor as an assistant coach with the Wolverines.

Wherever Sean Bormet has gone, he’s had an incredible amount of success.

Wrestling at Providence Catholic High School, he helped the Celtics win back-to-back dual-team state championships during his junior and senior seasons in 1988 and 1989.

Competing at the University of Michigan, Bormet was a two-time Big Ten champion in 1993 and 1994 as well as a two-time NCAA All-America selection.

He founded the Overtime School of Wrestling in 2001. Since then, Bormet and his coaching staff have produced FILA World Medalists, Olympic and World Team Members, NCAA National Champions and All-Americans, USA Wrestling Junior and Cadet National Champions and All-Americans and more than 150 IKWF and IHSA state champions.

Bormet recently announced that he will join the coaching staff at the University of Michigan.

Providence second baseman Kevin DeFilippis, catcher Dan Potempa and third baseman Sam Travis were Class 4A all-state selections for their excellent seasons this spring for the Class 4A runner-up Celtics.

L-W Central Baseball Enjoying Summer

The Lincoln-Way Central baseball team is off to a strong start in its summer season. The Knights improved to 6-1 when they swept Joliet Central in a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Knights won the first game 11-2 behind a 2-for-3 effort from Jack Krull, who also homered, while Joe Gianares went 2-for-2. In the nightcap, Jack Kozlowski went the distance in a 5-1 victory.

Illinois Celtics Baseball Wins Title

Thirty-two runs on 36 hits in two games. That's getting it done.

The 10-under Illinois Celtics baseball team took first place in the Caliendo Sports Invitational in Bourbonnais on Father's Day weekend. The Celtics advanced with a 19-0 no-hit win over the Bloomington Twins and followed that up with a 13-7 come-from-behind victory over the Orland Park Magic in the championship game.

Not only were the Celtics' bats booming, but they also picked up strong pitching throughout the tournament.
