FOOTBALL FRIDAY: Marching Bands Fuel Soundtrack of the Game

Football season is back, and we've got all the info you need about Lincoln-Way games. Hundreds of fans will pack the stands, and we're the place to talk about the athletes, the fans and the atmosphere.

Have you ever watched Halloween on mute?

Instantly, one of my personal favorite scary movies of all time becomes comical. The soundtrack to that movie adds suspense to a big oaf walking at a 1 mph clip.

That's what the marching bands can do for football games: Add a soundtrack to the game and transform the emotion behind it.

For many fans, the bands' music is background noise. And that's fine. But we'd notice if it was gone. On the other hand, many fans show up for the bands and stay for the football. And they should. In the Lincoln-Way area, we've got some pretty talented bands. Here's just a few of their recent accomplishments:

Below are some links to everything we've covered and more you'll want to know heading into the big game. But this is your site, and we want you to get involved. Send us your fan photos and video. Tell us what you think is the best part of the game. And check back every week for some great stories.

Game of the Week

(4-3) needs a win at home against St. Ignatius (2-5) to secure a spot in the playoffs. If they lose, they're in trouble: The Celtics play at 6-1 Mount Carmel next week. We'll be at the game against Ignatius to see if Providence can get a win. The game is at 7:30 p.m. tonight. More games:

  • (7-0) should keep rolling against Joliet Central (0-7) tonight at 7:30 p.m. We'll be at the game taking photos.
  • (4-3) hasn't won two straight conference games this year; can it against (4-3)? They meet at 7 p.m. tonight at North.
  • (1-6) hosts (6-1) at 7:30 p.m. tonight in what's likely to be another conference loss for the Knights.
  • (5-2) travels to Thornwood (4-3) for a 1 p.m. Saturday game. Thornwood has dropped three in a row while the Warriors are surging
