Central Grad Gets Big Ten Award for Top Student-Athletes

Kylee Botterman, a senior gymnast at the University of Michigan, was one of 534 athletes to get the Distinguished Scholar Award.

Kylee Botterman, a 2007 graduate of Lincoln-Way Central, has spent the last four years at the University of Michigan as one of the best college gymnasts in the country.

Now, she can add an honor for being good in the classroom, too. Botterman, of New Lenox, was one of 534 student-athletes selected as recipients of the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award. The list features student-athletes from every 2010-11 Big Ten Conference college and 33 different sports who have earned a minimum GPA of 3.7 or higher for the previous academic year.

Botterman has had a fantastic career. According to the team's website, she's a five-time NCAA All-American and has achieved countless other accolades, and earlier this season she was named the and in a competition earlier this season.
