Lincoln-Way Youth Tennis Tournament

Approximately 50 of the area's best high school and junior high school tennis players competed recently in the 3rd Annual Lincoln-Way Youth Tennis Tournament at Lincoln-Way North High School.

Medals were awarded to the top five in each division.

“Congratulations to all participants for their on-court effort and sportsmanship,” said Lincoln-Way North teacher/tennis coach Wes Cooley, who organized the tournament with Lincoln-Way North coach Mike Bacon.

Nearly 100 matches were completed during the three-day event, which pitted students from Lincoln-Way Central, Lincoln-Way East, Lincoln-Way North, Lincoln-Way West and Providence, among a few other high schools. Among those participating in the junior high division were students from Hickory Creek, Summit Hill and Mokena Junior High School.

“This tournament provides a way for the students to compete without the pressure of the tennis season,” Cooley said.

While Lincoln-Way North hosted the tournament and a majority of matches were played there, juniors and seniors played matches one day at Lincoln-Way East.

As the tournament continues to grow, organizers hope some day to fill all 40 courts at the four Lincoln-Way high schools.
