Baseball: Providence Reigns in a Light Rain
Providence 7, St. Laurence 3. First four hitters in lineup combine to go 12-for-15 as Celtics settle Catholic League score.
Touching All the Bases: Providence jumped ahead 2-0 in the first inning on a two-run single by Dan Potempa, added two more runs in the third inning on an error and a an RBI single from Joe Houlihan and then broke the game wide open in the fourth on a three-run home run by Sam Travis. Providence left-hander Matt Trowbridge struggled with command all afternoon, but surrendered just two runs in 4.2 innings of work as the Celtics defeated St. Laurence 7-3 on Monday in a light rain and evened the series between the Catholic League rivals at 1-1.
Patch’s MVP: Providence's No. 2 hitter Zak Kutsulis went 4-for-4 and his third hit, of the infield variety, kept an inning alive and set the stage for Travis' three-run homer. Kutsulis scored three runs and stole two bases.
St. Laurence Leaders: Mike Kornacker singled twice and scored.
