Bartuch Boosts L-W Central Boys Soccer

Lincoln-Way Central edges Eisenhower 2-1 to win the Lincoln-Way Invite, raise its boys soccer record to 8-1-1; Providence girls volleyball takes title at Oak Lawn Classic.

Conor Bartuch scored the go-ahead goal with a little over 3 minutes remaining to lift to a 2-1 victory over Eisenhower in the Lincoln-Way Invite. The victory gave the Knights this year's boys soccer tournament title and pushed their record to 8-1-1.

Providence Digs Oak Lawn Classic

The girls volleyball team didn't look too far ahead to Wednesday's matchup against perennial power Mother McAuley as the Celtics were in strong form last weekend at the Oak Lawn Volleyball Classic. The Celtics picked up five victories over the weekend to win the tournament and improve to 13-2 on the season. Krista Brakauskas was named tournament MVP.

L-W West Takes 2nd in Silver Division

The girls volleyball team battled with Providence during the Oak Lawn Volleyball Classic, before falling 25-17, 11-25, 15-10. The Warriors didn't let the loss get them down as they rebounded to finish second in the Silver Division of the tournament. "We had a great match against Providence," Warriors coach Rory Harrison said. The Warriors are 13-3 on the season and play Sandburg on Tuesday.

L-W Central Claims 3rd in Nike Preview

An up-and-down match with Rockton Hononegah ended up going in Lincoln-Way Central's favor as the Knights held on for a 25-12, 10-25, 25-22 victory in volleyball on Saturday to take third place in the Nike Preview. Danielle Dowd (25 kills, 41 digs, 18 blocks), Amanda Dolan (45 blocks, 18 kills) and Amy Bernhard (38 digs, 14 kills) led the way for the Knights during the tournament.

Football: Sandburg Rallies Past Knights

First it was Lincoln-Way Central that did the rallying. Falling behind early 14-0, the Knights rallied to tie Friday's footblal game against Sandburg at 21-all at halftime. Relying heavily on another strong effort Brett Ditchman (193 rushing yards, 3 TD runs), the Knights were ahead 28-24 until the Eagles scored the game-winner with 1:52 remaining. Sandburg (4-0, 2-0) remained undefeated, while the Knights dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in Southwest Suburban Blue play.

Telly's The Man For Celtics

The Providence boys golf team won Saturday's Naperville Central quadrangular at Naperbrook Golf Course in Plainfield. Providence's Telly Korbakes was the runner-up with a 1-over-par 73 to lead the Celtics, while Casey Labuda shot 74.

Cross Country: Knights are Runner-Up

The Lincoln-Way Central girls cross county team (49) finished in second place in Saturday's David Brady Invitational. Plainfield Central (45) won the Invitational. Lincoln-Way Central was led by Alena Pacheco (18:50.6), who took third, and Cara Robinson (19:18.7), who finished sixth.

Celtics, Knights Struggle in Celtic Swing

The Providence girls golf team finished in 11th place in the Gold Division and Lincoln-Way Central was 13th in the Silver Division in Providence's 26-team Celtic Swing at Broken Arrow in Lockport.

Maggie Corso led Providence with a 94, but no one else broke 100 for the Celtics. Their other finishers included Alyssa Newling (102), Kelly Brightmore (104), Maddie Utter (108) and Josie Mueller (124).

Julie Haring posted the top score for the Knights with a 110, followed by Clara Scheer (115), Elise Suppes (120), Yesenia Chavez (122) and Mary Yonkaitis (137). Providence finished with a team total of 408 and Lincoln-Way Central had a 467.
