Athletic Trainers Station Themselves on the Sidelines

Athletic trainer Katie Christopherson, of ATI Physical Therapy, is at the field during football practice throughout the Lincoln-Way communities.

High school athletics programs are more than practicing plays and perfecting skills. In the Lincoln-Way communities athletic trainers are on-hand to watch out for the safety of individual team members.

Katie Christopherson is an athletic trainer for ATI Physical Therapy, along with a sports medicine staff, was on the football field at New Lenox's Lincoln-Way Central High School, 1801 E. Lincoln Highway, when Patch caught up with her recently. From the sidelines, she keeps a watchful on the field.

Sports medicine is an integral part of all official sports at the high schools throughout the Lincoln-Way communities, she said. Her goal is to assist athletes in the prevention of injuries, to treat injuries and assist in the rehabilitation of individual athletes. Keeping them healthy throughout the season is crucial.

ATI Physical Therapy has two locations in New Lenox, 2534 E. Lincoln Highway and 806 Laraway Road, and one in Frankfort at 19552 S. Harlem Ave.
