Athlete of the Week: Trowbridge at His Best for Providence

Senior pitcher's near no-hitter against Marist helps Celtics keep rolling.

As dominating as he’s been on the mound this spring, Matt Trowbridge has struggled at times with is his command.

The Providence Catholic senior southpaw didn’t have any such problems on Tuesday, as he proved to be darn near unhittable in a 4-0 shutout of Marist.

Trowbridge, a Catholic Conference League all-conference selection the past two seasons, walked only three while fanning 14 of the 21 batters he retired. The only hit he surrendered was an infield single to shortstop, which, depending on who you ask, could have been recorded as an error.

“Matt threw outstanding, got ahead in the count and was able to throw both his breaking ball and change for a strike,” Providence coach Mark Smith said. “He just keeps getting better and winning games for us.”

In recognition of his contributions to his team, Trowbridge is Patch’s Athlete of the Week.
