Athlete of the Week: Ross Was Providence's Powerhouse in Regional Title Match
Celtics junior Marty Ross had 12 kills in a boys volleyball win over Lincoln-Way North that clinched the Marian Catholic Regional championship.
Providence Catholic’s boys volleyball team knew it had a difficult task on Wednesday when it faced Lincoln-Way North for the Marian Catholic Regional championship.
Fortunately, the Celtics received a huge effort from 6-foot-9 junior Marty Ross, who had 12 kills, four blocks and an ace in Providence’s 25-21, 25-23 victory.
“Marty has been on the varsity team since his freshman year,” Providence coach Brett Krapil said. “He is an outstanding player with the strongest work ethic on the team.”

Earlier this season, Ross was named to the all-tournament team in both the Marist Tournament and the Brother Rice Smack Attack. In addition, Ross is an all-conference selection in the Chicago Catholic League.
For his efforts, Ross is recognized as Patch’s Athlete of the Week.
Ross and his teammates had hopes for even greater things this season, but Sandburg ended Providence’s volleyball season on Friday with a 25-16, 25-18 victory in the Sandburg Sectional semifinals. Providence finished with a 23-10 record.
