Athlete of the Week: Lincoln-Way West Soccer Follows the Lead of Conor McGrath
Senior captain Conor McGrath scores twice to help the Warriors rally past Providence. He also led the way during a busy week for the Warriors in a draw against Bremen and a tough-luck loss to Shepard.
It appeared as if the boys soccer team still would be stuck with just one victory as the Warriors trailed Providence 2-0 at halftime on Thursday.
Suddenly, the momentum shifted.
Lincoln-Way West’s Conor McGrath scored in the opening seconds of the second half and added another goal minutes later to make it a 2-2 match. The Warriors would proceed to a 4-3 victory.

It was a much needed win for a Warriors squad that lost a tough 2-1 contest to Shepard earlier in the week, then followed up with a 1-1 draw against Bremen. Bremen ended Lincoln-Way West's season in 2010 during a sectional semifinal.
While McGrath didn’t have any assists or goals in the Shepard and Bremen matches, he displayed his leadership on the field as a captain. For his efforts in the win against Providence and his senior leadership throughout the week, he is recognized today as the Patch Athlete of the Week for New Lenox.
