"Girl Rising" Screening Coming to New Lenox

Girl Rising, is a ground breaking film about the power of education to change a girl and the world. Help bring it to the AMC Showplace in New Lenox for a screening!!

"Educate a Girl--Change the World".  It's a powerful message that will resonate and inspire movie-goers nationwide beginning March 7th, 2013 with the release of a new documentary called Girl Rising.  I have volunteered to be Screening Captain through the charitable organization behind the making of the film, 10x10. http://10x10act.org/

My role is to get the word out to everone in my area so that we can reach 100 reserved movie tickets by our assigned deadline of Thursday, Feb. 28th, 2013 at midnight.  If we don't "tip" this film, credit cards will not be charged and the screening will not happen.  Hopefully we'll pack the AMC Showplace in New Lenox on Thur., March 7th at 7:30 p.m. (the eve of International Women's Day) in unison with hundreds of other U.S. theaters supporting Girl Rising!!

Take a moment to watch the film's official trailer:

I told friends about it, especially the teachers I know. I have spent the last week learning how to "Tweet", emailing academic faculty and posting on blogs and Facebook pages. As a former early childhood educator and very active mom of 2 bright school-age kids, I can not imagine what life would be like without a right to educational opportunities for girls.  The film follows the stories of 9 inspirational girls from nine countries who overcome many obstacles on their path to obtaining a basic education.  It is directed by Academy Award nominated Richard E. Robbins and includes narrations by Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Freida Pinto, Salma Hayek, Selena Gomez, Alicia Keys and Kerry Washington.

My daughter had the honor of being cast for a small role in this film because she does some modeling for fun and was invited to a casting audition.  That's how I learned about Girl Rising and felt the urge to get involved with the 10x10 campaign to promote the film. The film is rated PG-13 and addresses some serious issues such as early marriage, child labor and sex trafficking.  My kids will stay at home with a sitter but someday I hope to watch it again with them.

What motivated me further to take on this volunteer assignment is that partial proceeds from movie tickets sales will help fund educational programs for girls around the globe!!  So I hope you will join me in promoting the screening of this film by reserving your movie tickets SOON and sharing this information with your contacts, schools, churches, places of work, etc.  Visit, like and share my Facebook page "Girl Rising is Coming to New Lenox, IL" and check it for updates.

Thank you Patch and thank you New Lenox neighbors!!
