Why Breakfast?

8th Annual Unity Breakfast "Honoring Those Who Make a Difference".Saturday April 28th from 8:00am – 10:00am at the Christian Youth Center 1110 Manhattan Rd. Joliet IL.

Our grandson came to spend a few nights last week. His parents thought that to be a good idea. I soon found out why. I recognized the symptoms right away.

Poor kid was being schooled in the not pleasant aspects of Murphy's Law 101, “Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.”

Tough course for a 6-year old.  He was just having one of those times when everything he did went wrong.  If he played with something it wouldn't work. If he touched something it broke.  If he wanted to do something it wasn't the right time. He was driving his mom and dad crazy.

I guess they thought if he came to our house, things would change. Makes me feel good they thought that way.  You ever have days like that? Everything goes wrong. To make matters worse, it seems at times like that everybody calls your name and reminds you how wrong you are, how you can't do this or that right.  Or they tell “Why don't you do it this way or that way.”

I thought about that when I saw the sad face on this little boy swallowed up in a big old chair with a look like he lost his best friend.  So, I rubbed up next to him and just listened to his side of the story.  I could identify with him, and I know many others who could too.

He thought he was doing everything right, but the whole world seemed to be telling him he was wrong. I listened and simply told him the truth that I loved him, I was proud of him, and he was really good at certain things.  I meant it, and he knew it.  His face changed from one of sadness to one of joy.

It is written,   “As iron sharpens iron; So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend” (Proverbs 27:17 NKJV).

His encounter with the tough lessons of life did not change that day, but you would never know it by the look on his face. We had breakfast together that morning. The breakfast was free. The time together was treasured, and the experience was priceless.  You gotta love being a grandparent!

Speaking of breakfast, you’re invited to our 8th Annual Unity Breakfast Saturday April 28th from 8:00am – 10:00am at the Christian Youth Center 1110 Manhattan Rd. Joliet IL. The theme is “Honoring Those Who Make a Difference”.

The grandson and I believe we all could use someone to lift us up and sharpen the countenance of his friend.  We’re going to honor some local servant leaders that day, those who give life, those who save life, and those who make a difference in this life.

If you know someone who should be honored for their heart and passion to make a difference in this world, join us for breakfast. The breakfast is free.  You'll treasure the time, and the experience will be priceless.  For more information you can email gary@sharefestnewlenox.com or call 815-717-2614 for details.
