Speeding through a construction zone.

Speeding through a construction zone.

I've heard some interesting stories as of late and with the article in the Patch this week regarding the number of tickets issued in the construction zone on route 30 all I can say is SLOW DOWN!

A friend of ours son got a ticket for 45 in a 35mph construction zone. The ticket was for $450.00! I don't know if he had any add on's to the ticket, but $450.00 will make you think twice about speeding down route 30 in that zone.

It's also illegal to talk on a cell phone in a construction zone. 79 tickets were issued just for using a cell phone in the construction zone in the last 4 months. 706 tickets were issued in total during those 4 months. The cops aren't playing with this. They mean business.

Thank god there was only one DUI. That's one of the most serious problems in a construction zone. The lanes are usually smaller and there's a lot more things to hit. I can't imagine what that ticket will cost.

263 tickets were issued for speeding. What does that say...how about don't speed through the zone. If each one of those equals $450.00 or so that's a lot of poorer New Lenox residents. But that's also a lot of safe construction workers too.

This construction stuff will be going on for quite a while. So I suggest (even to myself) that we all slow down, and get of the cell phone. You can always call someone back. It beats the heck out of the expensive ticket.

There does seem to be a lot of what I call "Add on tickets". They stop you for speeding and also ticket you for any other violation they can find. I believe in a warning for those things more than issuing a ticket. I'm sure this will make some of the police officers upset, but I've been the victim of this and it's kind of like playing football and having the whole apposing team pile on you after the tackle. Just my opinion. It will probably cost me.

So slow down in the construction zone. It's just not safe. Lets protect those workers. It's a pretty dangerous job.
