Prom a Real Rite of Passage

At this moment young Men and Women are recovering from there prom. I was lucky enough to send my son Casey to his senior prom for Lincoln-Way West High School.

I also was involved in the picture taking party before the prom. This involves shoving a large amount of people in a house so they can all take pictures of the prom group at once. By the time it's over all the prom goers are completely blind from the flashes on the cameras and have no sense of direction.

The girls all looked beautiful in there prom dresses and so did I. I chose a chiffon long flowing gown, kind of low cut, and with sequins in the front. My hair was done with flair and I dyed it blond for the dance. I was elected Queen of the prom and wore the tiara all night. Oh, by the way, the boys all looked handsome in there tuxes. Not quite as pretty as me, but they tried. 

They truth of the matter in this event is they have grown up. Prom is a real rite of passage. It starts out your adult life and the beginning of the road to watching your own children eventually get dressed up for the prom. 

I tried to talk my son Casey into following in his fathers footsteps and getting a nice maroon tux for his prom like his father. He went with the standard black tux. I guess he didn't want to stand out like a large strawberry like I did. 

It is quite a process getting ready for the prom. I don't remember calling my date and getting together so we could match up our outfits. The new age prom goers even match up the flowers and the boutonnieres. The tuxes match the dresses. It's amazingly coordinated as compared to 5 years ago when I went to prom. (I have trouble with time, I may have gone to prom a little longer then 5 years ago). 

Casey and his date Lauren looked so nice together. They were elected prom Prince and Princess. A close second to King and Queen. I really was elected prom street sweeper. Who wants to elect a prom king in a maroon tux?
