Write-In Candidate for New Lenox School D122, 2-year Term

A write-in candidate for New Lenox School District 122 filed Feb. 7 with the Will County Clerk's Office.

Todd Hyatt, New Lenox, filed a declaration of intent as a write-in candidate for the New Lenox School District 122 Board of Education.

The Will County Clerk's Office lists Hyatt as a new-comer to the race. Like incumbent Kathy Miller, he is running for the two-year term.

Patch has not yet been able to secure a comment from Hyatt.

The last day to file a declaration as a write-in candidate was Feb. 7, according to the Will County Clerk website. All total, there are eight candidates running for four expiring 4-year terms and two candidates for 2-year terms in NLSD122.

Hyatt steps into the fray that has come to define Election 2013 for the NLSD122 Board of Education. The early January objection to Miller's petition sparked a firestorm that led to an outcry when she was temporarily kicked off the ballot and later put back on by a Will County Judge John Anderson. Miller is contemplating whether or not she will pursue civil action against fellow Member Maureen Broderick, who has been accused of rigging the objection to Miller's petition.

The latest action comes from AFT Local 604. Union President Katie Kollross asked the Board and Administration for support regarding the "unfair" election objection hearing as they set a meeting with the Will County State's Attorney.

In addition, Kollross said there is a possibility of an "unfair labor practices" claim against Member Maureen Broderick for not following protocol when seeking copies of union communications, according to Kollross.

Kollross said in a statement to the board, "To not move forward with action against those who committed such acts of dishonesty against a fellow board member and the entire school community is virtualy an acceptance of such acts as standard operating producure. Simply stated, it appears to us Mrs. Broderick 'rigged' the electoral board hearing. The Union asks, "At what point do her actions become 'official misdconduct.'"

Broderick has not publicly commented on the matter.

There are eight candidates running for 4-year terms.

The incumbents for the 4-year term are:

  1. Patrick Martino, incumbent
  2. Deborah Kedzior, incumbent
  3. Sue Smith
  4. William Pender, who was initially appointed in August to fill the remaining  two years of a term left by resigning Member Sue Gillooley.

The four newcomers are:

  1. Thomas Hottinger
  2. Philip Adair
  3. Gregory Loock
  4. Rhonda Starklauf
