When Does School Start in New Lenox?

Only a few weeks left of the summer. School starts between Aug. 16-21 for most children in New Lenox and surrounding suburbs.

  • CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story had listed incorrectly the first day of school for Lincoln-Way School District 210 high schools. Classes start Thursday, Aug. 16, for the D210 high schools. Some of the registration times for the D210 high schools also were inaccurate. Those have been corrected. We regret the errors.

In the three-to-four weeks before school starts, many of the kids and parents of school-age children begin to get excited. Elementary students may or may not yet know who their teachers will be, but for those that do they've no doubt heard the news from friends or perhaps older siblings. This teacher or that teacher is "awesome, easy or tough."

They know which building they'll be spending the bulk of their day. They have in-hand the school supply list. If it has been misplaced, the stores in town, including the on Route 30, have supply lists from every school in New Lenox and surrounding communities.

But when exactly does school begin? While it seems to start earlier every year, it's not really the case.

For more than 10 years schools in New Lenox have pretty much established the second week of August or the early half of the third full week as the time to reunite those long lonely hallways with students. It's time the hallways were filled with lockers slamming and active students, walking—not running—to and from classrooms during three-to-four-minute passing periods.

The designated start time for the majority of schools in New Lenox is Thursday, Aug. 16. is the only one with a delayed start date of Aug. 27.
