Residents Trying to Ditch Joliet School District For Lincoln-Way File Restraining Order

The group wants to stop the Will County Regional Board of Trustees from holding a Monday night hearing on whether it can switch over to the Lincoln-Way high school district.

Residents hoping to escape the Joliet high school district and get annexed by Lincoln-Way filed a restraining order aimed at stopping a Monday night meeting of the Will County Regional Board of Trustees.

The Facebook page for a group working to get out of the Joliet district—Children For Lincoln-Way—seems to think the meeting is still on.

The last entry on the page, posted about 10:30 a.m. Monday, says, "The next hearing date is scheduled for tonight, May 12th @ 6:00 PM . It will be held at the Will County Office Building 2nd floor, in the County Board Room, 302 N. Chicago Street, Joliet, Illinois."

If the meeting does go on as scheduled, it will cause the group "irreparable harm and damage," according to court papers filed Friday.

The board should have canceled the meeting and passed the matter off to the state superintendent of education, according to the court filing.

The restraining order was filed on behalf of the "Committee of Ten," according to court papers. The group is "seeking detachment of a certain territory in the County of Will ... from Joliet High School District 204 and annexation to Lincoln-Way School District 210," said the complaint filed Friday.

The Children For Lincoln-Way Group had set up a Go Fund Me page in hopes of building a legal war chest for an anticipated court battle but pulled the plug on the page after Patch reported on it.

The Children for Lincoln-Way Go Fund Me goal was $20,000. By the time the page was taken down the group had raised $420.

The Children For Lincoln-Way Facebook page urged residents to attend the meeting.

"We would like to see a strong support at the hearing," the last post said. "Anyone can attend the hearing and we ask that everyone is respectful and quiet during the hearing.
