Relay for Life 2013 Campaigns Gear Up to Fight Cancer

New Lenox and the Frankfort/Mokena teams are hosting kick-off celebrations in February.

The New Lenox Village Board gave its whole-hearted support at the regular board meeting Monday. Representatives from the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life 2013 New Lenox group expressed their appreciation for the support.

The biggest cancer fighting event in New Lenox, Relay for Life, is already underway. Organizers have announced that the kick-off celebration is scheduled from 6:30-8 p.m. Feb. 20 at 1 Veterans Parkway.

The Frankfort/Mokena kick-off celebration is slated from 7-8:30 pm. Feb. 6 in the Griffins' Lair at Lincoln-Way East High School, 201 Colorado Avenue, Frankfort.

The Lincoln-Way communities have already begun to raise funds:  

New Lenox has 10 teams and raised $10,055. Martino Junior High School students are responsible for $8,500, which was collected during a fall fundraiser.

Frankfort/Mokena has 23 teams and has, thus far, collected $4,097.

The main event in New Lenox is July 12 at Lincoln-Way West High School, 21701 S. Gougar Road. And the Frankfort/Mokena event is a bit earlier. It's scheduled for June 6 at Lincoln-Way East High School, 201 Colorado Ave., Frankfort.
