D122: High Math Scores, Gillooley Replacement

Mathematics scores in the Illinois Standard Achievement Test are worth celebrating in .

At the Aug. 16 board of education meeting, Assistant Superintendent Peggy Manville offered a peek into the ISAT scores. The district's adoption of the "Everyday Mathematics" curriculum developed by the University of Chicago School Mathematics Project has generated top notch test scores, she said.  

Four of eight schools ranked in the 90 percentile range, while the rest were better than 85 percent. The average math score at for students in first- through third-grade ranked the highest with an overall score of 96.3 percent, and  for first- through third-grade achieved an overall score of 94 percent.

achieved a 93.6 percent score, and for students in grades fourth- through sixth-grade scored an overall 90.6 percent.

 students eceived an overall ranking of 89.9 percent;  came in at 89.2 percent; scored 88.8 percent overall in mathematics. achieved an overall score in mathematics of 85.4 percent.

A presentation on the ISAT and the district's scores is slated for October, she added. That's when the district will release its complete report card. Read more about the district's performance from 2011

New Board Member Sworn In

The board also named member Susan Smith to serve as vice president. She replaces former board vice president Susan Gillooley, who resigned her position in June amid accusations of stalking.

, vice principal at Joliet Catholic Academy, was appointed in July to fill the vacancy left by Gillooley. His appointment lasts until April 2012. Pender was selected from a field of nine candidates that offered their services as well.

Supt. Sass Plans to Host a Legislative Round Table to Discuss Funding   

Superintendent Michael Sass announced that he is planning to host a legislative roundtable to include area superintendants and General Assembly members. The topic, of course, is overall funding for the schools, including reduced and delayed payments.

No date has yet been set, however, Sass said he is actively planning to facilitate and organize the event in the near future.
