LW-Central Names 2011 Homecoming Court

The Lincoln-Way Central Homecoming King is Alex Ahlgrim, a senior, and the Queen is Paige Bassi, senior.

The Homecoming Week Pep Rally Friday was an exciting event for all 2,097 members of the student body.

The Homecoming King and Queen and Court were announced at the end of Friday’s festivities which included many fun activities, events and videos featuring teachers, students and administrators, all with the theme “Hawaiian Homecoming.”

The Lincoln-Way Central Homecoming King is senior Alex Ahlgrim and the Queen is senior Paige Bassi.

“It was so much fun running for Homecoming Queen and being involved in the entire week of activities,” Bassi said.

The 2011 Lincoln-Way Central Homecoming Court prince and princesses are: Danny Marconi, senior prince; Ali McBride, senior princess; Joe Somerville, junior prince; Anyela Geras-Kaleciak, junior princess; Tyler Borowski, sophomore prince; Cecilia Barrios, sophomore princess; Johnny Malinowski, freshman prince; and Katie Hoppa, freshman princess.

“The Pep Assembly was very popular with the students this year. We had tremendous support from our faculty with the Dancing with the Stars contest, as well as with the students for the second annual Knight Idol contest,” principal Steve Provis said.

Winner of the Knight Idol contest was Makena Koszela, a senior, singing the song ‘Bless the Broken Road’ by Rascal Flatts. Additional contestants were Alex Boeckman, senior, singing ‘The Truth’ by Jason Aldean; Rebecca Coutcher, a junior, singing ‘Baby One More Time’ by Brittany Spears; and Colin Uthe, a junior, singing ‘1,2,3,4’ by the Plain White Tees.

The ‘Dancing with the Stars’ winners were math teachers Jim and Jenny Mudrock with a ballroom dance.

Spirited performances with also given by the Lincoln-Way Central Knight Cheerleaders and Rhythm Knights, and the 114-member strong Marching Knights Band.

The Homecoming Pep Rally began with the presentation of the colors by the Central JROTC Color guard including: Domi Coleman, Robert Wellen, Sammy Williams, Eddie Hess and Justin Misiora. The National Anthem was sun by Heather Janel.

The Lincoln-Way Central Homecoming  2011 kicked off on Sunday, September 18 with their third annual Homecoming Parade.

“The Homecoming Parade is an opportunity to bring the community and high school together. It is a time to celebrate and recognize the students, faculty, and programs in our district, and to thank our community for all its support,” Provis said.

Homecoming 2011 continued on Monday, Sept. 19 with the Homecoming Olympics in the Lincoln-Way Central Field House. On Tuesday, Sept. 20, Lincoln-Way Central sponsored the “Road to Reality” project, an event targeting high school sophomores to raise awareness of the physical, emotional and legal consequences of underage use of  alcohol and/or drugs and the possible consequences of those choices.

More than 500 students also enjoyed the Bonfire/Sports Pep Rally on Thursday evening. The event was held in the outside Pavilion. Friday evening was the popular football game when the Knights hosted Lockport High School on Sept. 23 at the Knights stadium.

In addition, the Knights hosted the third-annual Homecoming 5K run on Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Hickory Creek-Barrens Nature Preserve.

The Homecoming Dance was held on Saturday, Sept. 24 in the Field House of Lincoln-Way Central. The theme for the dance was “Hawaiian Homecoming.”
