Lincoln-Way District 210 Honors Valedictorians, Salutatorians

Check out who was named valedictorian and salutatorian at Lincoln-Way District 210's schools.

The Lincoln-Way High School District 210 Board of Education recognized its top academic students Thursday night, introducing the Class of 2014 valedictorians and salutatorians from Lincoln-Way Central, Lincoln-Way East, Lincoln-Way North, and Lincoln-Way West high schools.

“This evening’s ceremony is to honor our valedictorians and salutatorians. This select group of individuals has chosen to set themselves apart and achieve at the very highest of academic levels,” stated Dr. R. Scott Tingley, superintendent.

The Class of 2014 represents the 53rd set of valedictorians/salutatorians from Lincoln-Way Central; the 12th set from Lincoln-Way East; the fifth set from Lincoln-Way North; and the fourth set from Lincoln-Way West.

The valedictorians for the Class of 2014 are:

Lincoln-Way Central: Michelle Dundek, with a grade point average of 5.909. She is the daughter of Karen and Frank Dundek of New Lenox.

Lincoln-Way East: Kasper Borys with a grade point average of 5.880. He is the son of Chris and Marta Borys of Mokena.

Lincoln-Way North: Jack Quirk with a grade point average of 5.582. Jack is the son of Alan and Tracy Quirk of Tinley Park.

Lincoln-Way West: Richard (Ricky) Puig with a grade point average of 5.542. He is the son of Karen Puig from New Lenox and Richard Puig Jr. of London, England.

The salutatorians of the Class of 2014 are:

Lincoln-Way Central: Jana Mudrock with a grade point average of 5.788. She is the daughter of James and Jennifer Mudrock of New Lenox.

Lincoln-Way East: Kurt Lezon with a grade point average of 5.842. He is the son of Joe and Karin Lezon of Frankfort.

Lincoln-Way North: Calvin Duong has a grade point average of 5.498. He is the son of Chanh and Christine Duong of Tinley Park.

Lincoln-Way West: Hannah Enyart has a grade point average of 5.445. She is the daughter of Jennifer Enyart from New Lenox and Kevin Enyart from Joliet.

“Congratulations to all of you. Your determination and effort have put you in this position. You have chosen to take advantage of all the educational opportunities provided at Lincoln-Way. You can be sure we are proud of you and look forward to your future accomplishments,” said Dr. Tingley.

The Class of 2014 graduation ceremonies are scheduled as follows:

  • Lincoln-Way North, June 3 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Lincoln-Way West, June 4 at 6:30 p.m. 
  • Lincoln-Way East, June 5 at 6:30 p.m.  
  • Lincoln-Way Central, June 6 at 6:30 p.m.

Michelle Dundek, valedictorian for Lincoln-Way Central, is involved in a number of school activities, including  water polo, swimming, Mathletes, Scholastic Bowl, National Honor Society, Tri- M Music Honor Society. Her favorite teacher is Colin Hopper. Outside of school, Michelle enjoys participating as a lifeguard/swim instructor at Lincoln-Way Central and West, Jets Swim team, and the Tinley Park Fencing Club. She is looking attend either University of Chicago or Notre Dame and has not decided on her major. Michelle is a National Merit Finalist and AP Scholar with Distinction.

Kasper Borys, valedictorian for Lincoln-Way East, enjoys participating in a number of school activities including cross country, track, chess, Mathletes, Future Business Leaders of America, Peer Helpers, and Computer Club. He said he has had many great teachers at Lincoln-Way East but has become closest to Ross Widinski because he is his cross country and track coach. He also enjoys being an academic assistance tutor. He plans to attend the University of Chicago and major in economics. Kasper received a perfect 36 on the ACT, is a National Merit Finalist and participated in the Future Business Leaders of America national competition.

Jack Quirk, valedictorian for Lincoln-Way North, enjoys participating in a number of school activities including the winter and fall plays, chess team, Environmental Action Club, ROTC, and peer tutoring. Marcia Steward was his favorite teacher at North. Outside of school he is involved with working at Environmental Action Club events, attending North football games and marching band shows. He is undecided about college but his top two choices are Northwestern University and the Illinois Institute of Technology. He plans on majoring in biomedical engineering. He is an AP Scholar with Distinction, National Merit Commended Scholar, National Spanish Exam Silver Award, and a PSAE All Star.

Richard (Ricky) Puig, valedictorian for Lincoln-Way West, is involved in a number of school activities including Jazz Band, Pep Band, Scholastic Bowl, and Mathletes. His favorite teacher is Tim Barry because he has always encouraged him to learn more and grow as a student and a person. Community activities he enjoys participating in are volunteering at the thrift shop in Palos and volunteering for his church in Joliet. He is still considering colleges including the University of Michigan, Northwestern University and the University of Illinois. He plans on majoring in physics. He has been named a National Merit Commended Scholar and Illinois State Scholar. He earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT and a 2280 on the SAT.

Jana Mudrock, Lincoln-Way Central salutatorian, has participated in many school activities including, captain of the badminton team, president of Mathletes, Mu Alpha Theta president, National Honor Society, Link Crew, and the tennis team. Her favorite teacher is Rhonda Starklauf. She also enjoys volunteering for activities in the community including Vacation Bible School at her church. She is planning on attending either Purdue University or the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and majoring in biomedical engineering. She has been named a National Merit Finalists and awarded AP Scholar status.

Kurt Lezon, Lincoln-Way East salutatorian, is active in many school activities including Jazz Band, drum line, Mathletes, chess team, Pit Orchestra, and Scholastic Bowl. Richard Kolimas is his favorite teacher. Kurt enjoys participating in the Boy Scout Troop 270 as a community activity. Kurt has been accepted to Clemson University, University of Illinois, and Georgia Tech University, he is undecided about which university he will be attending next year. He plans to major in engineering, and he is deciding which type of engineering he is most interested in.

Calvin Duong , Lincoln-Way North salutatorian, enjoys participating in the chess club and the  AFJROTC fitness program. His favorite teacher is Marcia Steward from Advanced Placement US History. He also enjoys helping with the Environmental Action Club in the community and participates in his church. Calvin plans on attending Valparaiso University after graduation and majoring in actuarial science. He has received the National Merit Commended award and named an Illinois State Scholar.

Hannah Enyart, salutatorian for Lincoln-Way West, enjoys participating in a number of school activities including student council, Road to Reality, Pi Sigma Pi, fall/winter plays, Madrigals, Link Crew, Key Club and National Honor Society. Her favorite teacher is Sara Pavlik. She is undecided which college or university she will be attending next year. She will major in psychology. Hannah is an Illinois State Scholar and has received high honors. Hannah also commented she loves the West motto, “Don’t Stop Believing."
