Football Photo Gallery: L-Way West Cruises Past L-Way Central

Lincoln-Way West 27, Lincoln-Way Central 9: In the first meeting between the district rivals, the Warriors built a 14-0 lead in the second quarter and then staved off a Knight comeback bid.

Lincoln-Way West played host to district rival Lincoln-Way Central in the first varsity football meeting between the two schools on Friday night.

And the Warriors notched a 27-9 victory.

West scored quickly in the non-conference game and built a 14-0 lead in the second quarter. After a series of penalties and a few heated exchanges by the teams, the Knights rallied with a touchdown and soon after scored a safety following a fumbled snap in the Warriors' end zone.

Central closed within 14-9 at the half. But West regained its momentum in the second half. The Warriors added a pair of touchdowns while shutting out the Knights in the third and fourth quarters.

It was great to see so much team spirit in New Lenox, last night. It's been missing for too long , especially at LWC. Justin Keach, LWW QB, got the last laugh as he had to transfer from Central to West to get an opportunity to show his skills. It's too bad that Central let Keach slip away as now Cale Hayes is splitting duties with senior Jeremy Wilson under center for LWC. Good Luck LWC next week at HF as Robert Johnson the HF signal caller threw for 3 touchdowns and ran for one against # 11 ranked Stevenson in a 35-27 victory.

Team spirit is starting to come back at LWC because of Provis. The previous leadership over there didn't support athletics. It is sad because they were once a powerhouse. They won a 4A state championship in softball in 2008 and then the AD let the program go down hill. The last couple years they had one coach! No first base coach, no assistant coach, nothing. The kids need support from the AD.
