Family Caregivers Seminar

The Manhattan-New Lenox TRIAD for Seniors would like to invite the senior citizens (age fifty and up) from the area to attend their monthly meeting on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at 1:30pm, at the Village of New Lenox Village Hall Community Room located at 1 Veterans Parkway (located in the Village Commons) in New Lenox.

 

The members of TRIAD are excited to announce that the guest speaker for the March 22nd meeting will be a representative from Leeza’s Place in Joliet.  We are hosting this seminar to inform the community of just what services Leeza’s Place gives to our area.

Leeza’s Place was founded by Leeza Gibbons in 2003 as a promise to her mother and to tell her story after her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and also her family’s subsequent caregiving challenges.  Leeza’s Place is home to all types of family caregiviers.  Their programs and services educate, empower and energize.  They are a source of strength and purpose connecting caregivers to one another and to the much needed resources within the community.

Leeza’s Place’s Mission Statement:  Leeza’s Place is “A Place for Caregivers”; a community gathering place and resource center committed to providing free support services, resources and programs for family caregivers taking care of a loved one with a memory disorder or any chronic and/or progressive illness: 

 

The representative of Leeza’s Place at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center will be visiting us from their Joliet location at 50 Uno Circle in Joliet.  The Joliet Foundation of Leeza’s Place offers free educational programs, social activities and emotional support for caregivers and the recently diagnosed.  Also offered are; memory screenings, presentations and workshops, mentoring, information and referral assistance, alternative healing methods, health and wellness programs,  and a media and resource library.  For more information about Leeza’s Place you can find them at:  http://leezasplace.org  

 

The Manhattan-New Lenox TRIAD hopes you will be able to join us for this interesting and informational presentation of Leeza’s Place.  We are also excited to announce that New Lenox Community Television will be there to video-tape and air the presentation on Channel Six our New Lenox Community Television channel.   So please check out the television listings for date and time of the program on Channel Six.  

 

 

 

 

 

Many of you may not be familiar with the Manhattan-New Lenox TRIAD for Seniors.     We are a part/chapter of Will County TRIAD for Seniors which is run by Sheriff Paul Kaupas and the Will County Sheriff’s Police. 

 

What and Who is TRIAD of Will County and  TRIAD of Manhattan/New Lenox?

 

  • TRIAD is cooperation between law enforcement agencies and senior citizens.
  • TRIAD strives to reduce criminal victimization of older persons
  • TRIAD assesses the needs and concerns of older citizens.
  • TRIAD leads to a broad dialogue on safety and security issues
  • TRIAD is the link with elderly members of the community

 

The Manhattan-New Lenox TRIAD has also added representatives from the New Lenox Police Department, the New Lenox Fire District, the Manhattan Police and Manhattan Fire Department, the Illinois State Police Medicaid and Fraud Control Bureau, the New Lenox Park District, New Lenox Community Television Channel, New Lenox Township Offices as well as many senior citizen residents who come together to make a difference for senior citizens in Manhattan and New Lenox.
