D210 Board Approves 2011-12 Budget Quietly and Quickly

Despite being debated over the summer, the nearly $97 million budget passed unanimously and without comment Thursday.

, the  passed unanimously—and without comment—during Thursday's meeting. 

The school year's budget is $97,663,043, and it reflects the cuts of five faculty positions, six administrative positions and math aides, and reductions to writing centers, coordinators of student activities and instructional technology, Supt. Dr. Lawrence Wyllie said in a press release given out at the meeting.

Sandwiched in the middle of Thursday's meeting, the budget's approval was made without fanfare, and the board took little time to pass it before it moved on to other matters.

Earlier in the meeting, board members heard from student representatives from each of the four Lincoln-Way high schools about physical education efforts being made in the district.

Central's Matt Schneider, East's Ryan Smetana, North's Brooke Kirschsieper and West's Colin Mulroe took turns speaking about adaptive physical education, the student leaders program, the Fitness for Life program and human performance classes at each school, respectively.

“We brought some of our finer students to chat with (the board) tonight and share a little bit about their experiences (in the programs),” Lincoln-Way East teacher Susan Anstett said.
