D122 Settles Warranty, Will Begin Spencer Parking Lot Construction

The school district wants to ensure the parking lot's quality will last another 15 years.

Construction will begin soon on the $330,000 project to maintain the parking lots at Spencer Campus.

On Wednesday, the District 122 Board of Education negotiated a warranty agreement with contractors to make sure the campus won't end up in the same spot they are now: five years in with parking lots that are cracking and showing signs of greater wear and tear.

"We were beginning to see the signs of failure and wanted to have that addressed with the contractor as soon as possible," District 122 Supt. Mike Sass said.

The school board approved the agreement Wednesday to complete warranty work that will guarantee 15 more years of quality parking lots so the district will avoid having to pay for upgrades in that time.

Sass said maintenance could be completed by July 20.
