Cross Country: L-W West Girls Claim Southwest Suburban Red Title

Freshman Natalie Waters leads Warriors' pack in run to Southwest Suburban Red girls cross country title. Andrew's Mike Keller wins the boys race.

Freshman Natalie Waters led a pack of three top-10 finishers for Lincoln-Way West as the Warriors won the Southwest Suburban Red Conference girls cross country title Saturday at Turtlehead Lake.

Waters was clocked in 18:59 for 3 miles, good for a first place finish. Toni Fiore (third, 19:45) and Kendall Grigoletti (eighth, 20:12) also turned in top-10 finishes for Lincoln-Way West.

Meghann Lange (12th, 20:22) and Emily Owens (18th, 20:52) also scored for the Warriors.

Lincoln-Way West finished with a team total of 42 points. Andrew placed second with 43, followed by Lincoln-Way North 45, Stagg 103, Thornton 104 and Thornwood 177.

Andrew was led by Tiana Karopulos (fourth, 19:55). The Thunderbolts also picked up top performances from Jalyssa Rodriguez (fifth, 20:03), Colleen Tesher (ninth, 20:13), Paige Buerger (11th, 20:20) and Maggie Schultz (14th, 20:38).

Lincoln-Way North's points came from Dena Waldier (second, 19:39), Sherry Maschmeyer (sixth, 20:09), Caitlin Broderick (seventh, 20:10), Marissa Jones (10th, 20:16) and Kaleigh Tinsley (21st, 21:17).

Stagg was paced by Eileen McGowan, a sophomore who finished 15th in 20:41.

BOYS RESULTS: Andrew's Mike Keller won the boys race with a time of 16:07 for 3 miles. He led the T-Bolts to a second-place finish with 58 points. Thornwood captured the boys title with 54 points.

Andrew's Leo Teneyuque (eighth, 16:48), Adam Vranicar (13th, 16:58), Tyler Thelen (15th, 17:00) and Anthony Falco (21st, 17:13) also scored for the T-Bolts.

Lincoln-Way West placed third with 58 points, followed by Stagg 75, Lincoln-Way North 115, Thornton 150, Bradley-Bourbonnais 207 and Thornridge 215.

Lincoln-Way West's Mark Pedziwiatr finished second with a time of 16:26. The Warriors also picked up top performances from Ryan Kennedy (10th, 16:53), Trevor Jablonski (11th, 16:53), Adam Fabian (16th, 17:01) and Nate Stefka (19th, 17:07).

Stagg was topped by Mike Para (fourth, 16:43) and Lincoln-Way North was led by Denton Wallace (third, 16:32).
