Commencementa for Providence Catholic was at the Rialto

A total of 275 students make up the Class of 2013 at Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox.

Providence Catholic High School celebrated the Class of 2013 commencement on June 4 at the Rialto Square Theatre in Joliet.

Each of the 275 members of the class crossed the Rialto stage to receive their PCHS diploma, marking the completion of four successful and memorable years.

During the ceremony, Valedictorian Gabriella Berman of Joliet and Co-Salutatorians Alyson Duzansky of Mokena and Michelle Ford of Homer Glen each addressed their classmates with powerful words of encouragement and expressed their gratefulness to family, friends and Providence faculty and staff.

During the special awards portion of the graduation ceremony, Athletic Director, Doug Ternik announced Matthew O’Neill of Lemont as the recipient of the Senior Athletic-Spirit Award and Andrew Helmin of Frankfort and Courtney McEnery of  Orland Park as the recipients of the Jaime Garcia Scholastic Athlete Award.  Fr. John Merkelis, O.S.A. named Ryan Jones of Homer Glen and Margaret Davis of New Lenox as the recipients of the Bishop Blanchette Religion award.  Furthermore, George McCabe II of Mokena and Gabriela Sanfilippo of Tinley Park received the prestigious Bishop Roger Kaffer Leadership Award.

Ninety-nine percent of the Class of 2013 will continue their education at a college or university. More than 800 scholarships valued at nearly 28 million dollars were offered to this class.  Sixteen percent of this class were named Illinois State Scholars. These seniors performed in excess of 20,000 hours of community service during their high school careers.
