College Signing Day for Standout Athletes at L-W West High School

Lincoln-Way West High School celebrated five athletic standouts on National Athletic Letter of Intent Day.

At a long table Feb. 6 at the front of the room reserved for special occasions, the Warrior's Lodge, five standouts from Lincoln-Way West High School sat, awaiting the traditional accolades from their coaches who'd share bits about what makes them tick.

Parents and friends—the special people in their lives—would hear from a coach words that warmed their hearts. Their children were acknowledged for his or her athletic prowess, team spirit and the inner-drive that moved them heart and soul to top performance on the field and in the classroom.

The students are: Emily Gallagher, swimming; Matt Galounis, football; Derek Gurnea, football; Colin McGovern, football and Alexis Skiniotes, diving.
