International Wine, Beer and Spirits Show

The show within the show

My blog this week is about the International Wine, Beer and Spirits show that I attended on May 6th at the McCormick Place in Chicago. It is a show within a show. It is part of the The National Restaurant Association Show now on its 93rd year. There were multiple wine makers, distributors and everything in between.

Some of my favorites I ran across were the Pinot Noirs from Sonoma Valley in California especially the Russian River area. This is where the best Pinot Noir grapes are being grown in the country. Wines for Humanity carried a wine from there and we ran out quickly. We will be bringing back a wine similar soon. The best Pinot that stands out from the crowd was from the Thomas George Estates and it is the 2009 Pino Noir, Cresta Ridge, Russian River Valley. It was wonderful. It was fuller bodied then the others and Sean Tevik, Operations Manager at the Estates was very knowledgable. There were great wines from Argentina and Greese as well.

Another great group of wines that stood out was the wine from Echelon Vineyards in California. They have a 2011 collection of Pinot Noirs, Cabs, Pinot Gregios, and Chardonnays. Wines For Humanity carries a Chardonnay very similar called Mountain Shadow, Napa Valley. This is a wine that once you try it, you won't forget it.

There was also the number one rated champagne in the world there called Armand De Brignac that was unbelievable. If you ever get a chance to get a bottle, you will not be disappointed. We carry a sparkling wine that does the job for celebrating called Framboise Sparkling Raspberry from France as well. It is delicious!!

Also, with summer around the corner it is officially Sangria time. There was a Sangria at the show called Santos Sangria from Spain that was pretty good. We carry a great sweet red called Vaporello from Italy that is perfect to make your own Sangria with any type of fruit you like.

All in All, the show was an wonderfully unique experience and I will be going back every year.
