Random Comments on the Olympics, Football and Fall TV

Olympics, History, NFL Red Zone, and Lincoln-Way Football.

The Olympics came to a close on Sunday with the usual pageantry of the closing ceremonies. After what was almost 24 hours a day coverage of the games, NBC decided to cut short the closing ceremonies to show a preview of what looks like a lame new sitcom, really an Animal Hospital that is just as busy and hectic as an ER?  Sorry NBC you made such a commitment to the Olympics and you blew at the end.  Bummer to all the Who fans.

There is a new show on the history channel that is another spin off of ‘Pawn Stars’, ‘Counting Cars’.  Danny Koker, who does the get appraisals or works on cars for ‘Pawn Stars’, now has his own show.  First show, they restored a ’68 Ford Mustang like one Steve McQueen drove in ‘Bullitt’.   What looked like a piece of junk to the average person Danny saw potential and created a classic.  I could, and may have, spend all day watching, ‘Pawn Stars’, ‘American Restoration’, and ‘American Pickers’, I now have a another History Channel show to get addicted on.

Favorite book I read this summer was ‘ Mental Floss’s History of the United States’.  If you ever get a chance read a Mental Floss book, read the magazine, or check out the Mental Floss website.

Football season is coming, which means my favorite channel ‘EVER’ is coming back on Sundays.  NFL Red Zone, this is a football fan’s dream and a football fan’s wife nightmare.   It’s like having an automatic remote control for all of the Sunday afternoon games.  They switch from game to game based on whether a team is in the ‘Red Zone’ getting ready to score or stays on games that are the most interesting.  No commercials, non-stop football for over six hours, got to love it, especially if you are in a fantasy football league.

Speaking of football LW Central and LW West will play for the first time on August 31st at West.  I have been doing the games for the past two years for West and they have been very impressive.  NLCTV will be taping the game so watch for it, high school football is great to watch.  Even though I got to know the Warriors over the past two years, my heart will be routing for the Knights as that is where my kids have gone to school.  Go Knights! Dave Butterfield, my counter-part, his kids go to West so he will be bleeding Warrior Orange.
