mmm, I've found much to appreciate in New Lenox since moving here 6 years ago. But, a bakery to rival the ones in my former Chicago neighborhood is not something I've found. And, I've been searching, seriously. Kirby's in Manhattan has some fine Bismarcks and a 24 hour donut place in Joliet is excellent. Best I found recently is the baked goods counter at Orland Park's Whole Foods. They make a cake that resembles a Tiffany gift box that is wonderful and other cakes I've bought there use 100% REAL whipped cream and/or real BUTTER cream. Pricey as can be though. So, thanks to I-355, I can now make the 60 mile round-trip treks faster to the three bakeries in Chicago's Garfield Ridge neighborhood, Weber's, Pticek's and Racine, that remain the best I know.

Fleckenstiens in Mokena is the only good bakery in the Lincolnway area. Otherwise Busy Bee in Downer's Grove is the Best Bakery. New Lenox could use a good bakery.

I've always preferred Fleckensteins, but Kirby's is a close second.
