The Village Board met in closed session Monday night and has discussed Lowman's replacement. Because of anticipated business growth following completion of the Silver Cross Hospital and Route 30 widening projects, Baldermann said it's an important position that will be filled quickly.

"Obviously we’ve got a lot of things development," he said.

The village's economic development director works to promote New Lenox as a viable option for new businesses to call home. The job includes corresponding with potential businesses seeking more information and attending conferences to promote the village.

Baldermann said a candidate to replace Lowman is already being considered, and he anticipates the position being filled within the next month, as early as the next board meeting on Monday, Aug. 22.

The mayor said Lowman's salary was about $86,000 and that the new employee's salary would be similar.
